Welcome

Dear Colleagues,

We are very pleased to welcome you to Zürich.

This year’s Swiss Stroke Society Meeting you present the latest information and scientific developments regarding the entire treatment chain of stroke. Focus topics 2019 are brain and heart (atrial fibrillation, PFO), management of hypertension, intracerebral haemorrhage and AV malformations, and neurorehabilitation. The meeting will emphasize basic and clinical research and joint discussions. Like in Lausanne in 2018, the “2nd Interprofessional Stroke Symposium for Nursing and Therapy” will take place in 2019 and will be carried out by the Swiss Stroke Nursing Network. The topics are pictograms, movement therapy according to forced use, ethics, mobilization, nutrition and neglect.

Zürich offers an excellent scientific environment, especially defined through the tight relationship between the University Hospital of Zürich (Universitätsspital), University of Zürich (Universität Zürich) and the ETH (Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich). Approximately 2000 stroke patients from the Zürich area have access and profit from high-quality care and delivered by the Zurich stroke network. The University Hospital coordinates this network which includes hospitals from Zurich as well as adjacent cities and cantons (10 Acute Care Hospitals and 8 Rehabilitation Clinics).  At the University Hospital our research focus lays in the connection between the acute phase and rehabilitation and the understanding of long-term outcomes. Basic science goes in parallel to the clinical and engineering research. We would be happy to present these approaches to you personally during your visit.

Enjoy Zürich!

Yours

Andreas Luft, Susanne Wegener, Luca Regli, Christoph Stippich, Doris Mösinger & Marcel Arnold
