Stroke Action Plan for Europe (SAP-E)

The Stroke Action Plan for Europe (SAP-E) is a pan-European project, and sets targets for the implementation of evidence-based preventive actions and stroke services until 2030.

It was outlined by the European Stroke Organization (ESO) in cooperation with the Stroke Alliance for Europe (SAFE) to reduce the burden of stroke through improvement of care. SAP-E covers the entire chain of stroke care and was designed by a large group of stroke experts from all regions of Europe.

The "Stroke Riskometer", developed by Prof Feigin from New Zealand who is well known for his excellence in epidemiological stroke studies, can now be downloaded for free. The app is based on the Framingham stroke prediction algorithms and is being validated against other stroke prediction algorithms.
The Stroke Riskometer has been endorsed by the World Stroke Organization (see article in the International Journal of Stroke).

NIH Stroke Scale training of the German Stroke Society

The use of clinical scales is an essential element in many medical disciplines. This is particularly true for the assessment of neurological deficits in acute stroke. The clinical severity of the stroke is measured by the extent of the functional deficits. The NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale) has established itself worldwide as a clinical measuring instrument.

Until now, an English-language training and certification process had to be completed for this. DSG has now developed a German-language training and certification program based on a validated translation of the NIHSS. This is intended to promote dissemination in clinical and scientific settings and increase competence in the use of this standard. Nevertheless, the NIHSS does not cover all deficits that can be caused by a stroke. These may need to be described through individual documentation.

Participation in the DSG training and certification program is free of charge.
