Ladies and gentlemen, dear colleagues
Ladies and gentlemen, dear colleagues
Welcome to the website of the Swiss Stroke Society (SHG)!
Our society was founded almost a quarter of a century ago (in April 1996) as a specialist body consisting of neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists and neurologists who wanted to promote interdisciplinary exchange on the subject of stroke. The founding members were (alphabetically): J. Bogousslavsky (neurology), J. Le Floch (neurology), Ph. Lyrer (neurology), H. Mattle (neurology), D. Rüfenacht (neuroradiology) and Y. Yonekawa (Neurosurgery).
Even today, interdisciplinarity and interprofessionalism are important pillars of our society, which is open to all professional groups involved in stroke treatment. We see ourselves as a discussion forum for interested clinicians, scientists and medical professionals and strive to provide optimal care for cerebrovascular patients. We promote open, consensus-oriented communication and advocate the values of gender equality in the prevention and treatment of patients as well as in the professional lives of our members. Medical and scientific exchange is fostered both at the annual conference and at the annual Swiss Stroke Trialist's Meeting.
A central task of the SHG is the development of evidence-based medical guidelines as an important prerequisite for high quality stroke care in Switzerland. The implementation of quality standards is ensured by the establishment of specialized stroke units and stroke centers and is continuously monitored in the process of their certification in cooperation with the Swiss Federation of Clinical Neurosocieties (SFCNS). In addition, our society operates a national stroke register in which important quality characteristics are recorded and monitored.
A further aim of our society is to promote the further education, training and research of doctors, nurses and therapists in the field of cerebrovascular diseases. An SHG sponsorship prize and an SHG prize for the best oral presentation are awarded at our society's annual meetings. Consequently, the SHG particularly addresses young interested colleagues from all professional groups and invites them to become members of our society (online registration).
Thank you for visiting our society's website and best regards!
Prof. Dr. med. Mira Katan, President SHG
